President Jamie Comstock Williamson

Dr. Jamie Comstock Williamson is Winthrop University 10th President. She shares the President’s house with her husband, Larry Williamson along with their 10 year old Chesapeake retriever Cocoa. Dr. Williamson is from south-central Illinois and earned her Ph. D in communications from the University of Arizona. Her degrees also consist of bachelor’s and master’s from Illinois State University. While being a leader here at Winthrop, she hopes that once the students graduate that they will be successful and secure the resources to make Winthrop a college that they will never forget. As stated in her blog entitled, “Advancing the Higher Education Agenda” she stresses out the importance about how all students regardless of their family backgrounds, deserve the education that Winthrop offers. Even though this is Dr. Williamson’s first term as president, she spent most of the time getting to know the campus and most importantly the students. In order to get to know the students better, she held face times with Dr. Williamson in the Digiorgio Student Center. Face times were where students can sign up online and discuss whatever is on their mind with the president for about thirty minutes. With the faculty and staff, she also does town hall meetings where she can discuss with them about how Winthrop can improve. At one of the faculty and staff meetings, she talked about the fact that Winthrop might get a football at some point. Not only dose President Williamson have really good interactions with the students and staff, but also with the alumni as well. For a small university like Winthrop, it’s important for a president like her to feel more connected to campus and to make sure that it continues to try its’ best to make sure that everyone is a part of the Winthrop family. So far during my first year here at Winthrop, President Williamson has done a tremendous job not only with the interactions with students, faculty, staff, and campus but mainly with the university itself. As far as being a great leader, I think she really is very active in the Rock Hill Community. She’s very active in the Rock Hill Community by making visits to schools around the area. From her point of view I can tell that she really tries hard to make sure that graduates get their degree in whatever field that makes them happy. No one could ask for a better president like Dr. Jamie Comstock Williamson.
