Multimedia Assignment

The example that I found for Multimedia Journalism was on You Tube. You Tube displayed a news story about trees falling down in Santa Maria. When the reporter was describing how the tree fell, the camera established a great shots at the angle in which the trees fell. In Multimedia Journalism camera angles are very important especially when you are describing the scene in a particular news story or movie. During this example of multimedia journalism, the reporter conducted interviews with constructors and people who witnessed the tree crashing. Constructors who were building when the tree fell had to quit so they would not get hurt. Another thing displayed in this video was a video-audio linkage of the tree before it fell. While observing this video, the reporter used the word “but” so that he could make one transition to the next story, which is another thing people should be mindful of when creating a multimedia journalism story.
There are many varieties of shots that are shown throughout which grabs the television watchers attention so that they may see how big the trees were. In general, this news story was easy to understand since it displayed important information in a very detailed way to pull people into the story. The sentences in this news story were short and not difficult to comprehend. They were also written in a conversation style. By the time we start our term project, I think that I might be able to do a project similar to the one I observed or maybe even better. The hardest part of this project to me would probably be adding the voices in the background and writing in general. Writing and giving supporting details has always been a struggle for me even though it has gotten better over the last years it still remains a challenge for me. I have not had any experiences with cameras which will be another difficult task while completing this project. In order to receive a really good grade on the term project I will go to my professor’s office hours for questions and I won’t wait to the last minute to do everything all at once. For this project, I might want to hire a professional to videotape or I should take lessons on how to operate cameras since the majority of this class is going to be about making stories like multimedia.

The Decision

First steps are usually the most difficult.  However, for me, deciding on a career was perhaps the easiest decision I have ever made. Broadcasting has always been something I wanted to do every since I was on my high school's news team.  And after completing an internship at a local news station, I was totally hooked!

So while many college freshmen weigh lots of choices about which career path they should take, I always knew that broadcasting was the right choice for me.

Do you have a love for breaking news events?  Do you love the excitement of the entertainment industry? Have you ever dreamed of some day landing that elusive interview ? Do you dream of your own talk show? Then perhaps a broadcasting career is the right decision for you.....think about it.
